UTAH’S 2013 ANGEL INVESTOR UPDATE SUCCESSFULLY BRINGS ANGEL COMMUNITY TOGETHER – Activity Report Published

The Wayne Brown Institute, in conjunction with multiple corporate sponsors including host, Zions Bank, brought Utah angel investors together for a comprehensive look 2013 activity.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Every year the Wayne Brown Institute facilitates the gathering of Utah angel investors to provide an annual update and reporting of activity, an outlook for the coming year, and a sharing of best practices for an improved equity infrastructure for early-stage businesses in Utah.  This year’s event, held on Tuesday, November 5th, saw over one hundred interested investors attend. David Hemingway, the keynote speaker and Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Zions Bank Corporation, spoke to the group about the world of volatility.

The afternoon was filled with moderated panels on interesting angel investment topics such as the year in review, possible exits for angel investments, SEC regulation changes, and how the investment ecosystem is changing in Utah.

The summit provided a great opportunity for angel activity statistics to be aggregated into a report. The report indicates that organized angel investing in Utah placed over $14.1MM in early stage companies over the last 12 months. The smallest amount invested at one time was $5,000, with the largest investment totaling over $1.6MM.

The summit was not only well attended by Utah angel investors but also saw participation from individuals from multiple other states.
